Social Change UK - "Why Businesses Must do Good to be Great"
CSR is an everyday business term – but many
enterprises still think Corporate Social Responsibility is only
something for the “big boys.”
According to Social Change UK Director Kelly Evans that’s a dangerous
assumption and one which needs tackling by all business and
organisations, whatever their size, if they are keen to grow and improve
their bottom line.
Speaking to members and guests at Business Women’s Link, Kelly explained
why trying to push up your profits without taking responsibility could
kill off your brand.
Kelly said that it is well worth businesses taking time to ensure that
they are operating in a socially-responsible way – and that they are
also using suppliers which share their vision.
“Consumers are no longer passive buyers. Instead, they are becoming an
informed and vocal group, which can act collectively, spread information
and have a significant impact on a company’s brand and reputation,” she
said.
“The question is no longer whether social responsibility is important
but rather, how does a company become socially responsible?”
Kelly added that many businesses may already be doing things right,
perhaps by buying recycled office products or using greener vehicles,
but they may be able to take CSR further.
With competitors already CSR-savvy and discerning customers looking to
buy goods and services from businesses with a social conscience, it is
clear that every business needs to be ticking the “socially responsible”
box.
